What happens when you join our dental practice?
If you want to join our dental practice, we’ll invite you to come along and meet your new dentist. You’ll first meet our friendly reception staff who will ask you to complete a medical form.
This information tells us about your general state of health which can often affect the health of your teeth and gums and influence which antibiotics or anaesthetics we use for treatment.
Next, you’ll have a chance to discuss any dental concerns you have or how you’d like to makeover your smile.
Your dentist will carry out a thorough check to understand your current oral health and understand which treatments would be right for you. This check can include looking at:
- Your teeth, your bite (the way your teeth come together when you eat) and your jaw
- Whether you have any fillings, crowns, veneers or implants
- How healthy your gums and the bone surrounding your teeth is
- Your tongue, throat, cheeks and lips for signs of oral cancer
We’ll also take dental x-rays to check:
- Whether there’s any decay inside your tooth or between your teeth
- Whether you have any abscesses or cysts on the roots of your teeth
- The position of the roots of your teeth
- Whether you have any bone loss
Once we’ve finished your examination, your new dentist will tell you what they’ve found and discuss treatment options with you. Then they’ll create a treatment plan that outlines your treatment options, costs, benefits and risk so you can decide what is right for you.
