What is a dental emergency?

Need to see a dentist immediately to stop bleeding, relieve severe pain, treat an infection or treat tooth loss due to injury? Call us to make an appointment with an emergency dentist.

Our friendly and kind team of dental professionals can help you solve:

  • An infection such as an abscess
  • Severe toothache
  • Uncontrolled bleeding from the mouth
  • Loss of a tooth because of injury or impact
  • A swollen or aching jaw
  • A bad taste in your mouth with difficulty breathing and/or fever

What will happen at your emergency appointment?

You’ll be welcomed by a friendly and understanding receptionist when you come to our dental clinic for your appointment.

When the dentist is ready for you, they will invite you to take a seat and then ask you to explain what the problem is before they gently examine your mouth. Your dentist will explain what needs to be done and you may be offered pain relief or a prescription for antibiotics, if needed.

If you need to make a further appointment for a dental bridge or other treatment, you can do this immediately.

1. What should I do if a whole tooth has been knocked out?
If you’ve lost an entire tooth, give us a call and ask for an emergency dentist. Meanwhile, rinse your tooth in milk and push it back into the socket if possible. Otherwise, you can place it inside your cheek or store it in milk until you can see a dentist.
2. Will a dental abscess go away without seeing a dentist?
It’s unlikely that a dental abscess will heal without using antibiotics to fight the infections. Contact us to ensure you receive optimal treatment and can solve the problem fast.
3. What should I do if my child falls and breaks a tooth?
Cuddles are key if your child breaks a tooth. They’re likely to be very traumatised and in shock. Then give them a dose of Calpol if they are in pain, stick to soft foods and make an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible.
4. My wisdom teeth are hurting. What can I do?
It’s common to experience some discomfort when your wisdom teeth are coming through. Use painkillers and make an appointment with your emergency dentist to learn the best course of action. This could involve simply waiting or having your wisdom teeth removed.
