What are dental implants?

Dental implants are the best-known, discreet and permanent solution for tooth loss and are ideal if you’re missing teeth, can’t wear dentures, or want to look and feel younger.
They consist of small titanium screws that replace the roots of your teeth. These can then be covered with beautiful, handcrafted artificial teeth that look and feel exactly like your natural teeth would.

If you have healthy oral tissues, don’t smoke and can commit several months to the process, dental implants could be the restorative dental procedure you’ve been looking for.

What is the dental implant procedure?

Before you get dental implants, we will carry out an in-depth assessment to evaluate whether you are suitable and develop a treatment plan.

First, we will remove any damaged teeth then insert the titanium posts, cover them with a temporary denture and give time for them to heal. During this time, you’ll need to eat soft foods for around 2 weeks.

Next, we’ll check that your implant procedure has been successful and add a healing cap to the fixture. If we need to make any changes to your temporary dentures, we’ll do it at this stage.

Finally, we’ll fit your gorgeous new handcrafted porcelain teeth crowns and ensure they fit correctly and look fantastic before you go and enjoy your brand-new smile.

1. Does it hurt?
No. Getting dental implants shouldn’t hurt because you’ll be given a local anaesthetic before the procedure. However, you may experience some discomfort so will be given painkillers afterwards to make you feel more comfortable.
2. How long do dental implants last?
Dental implants should last for many decades if taken care of properly. There’s a small chance that the implant doesn’t attach to the bone. If this happens, you’ll usually notice this during the healing phase. We would then need to replace the implant.
3. Who is suitable for a dental implant?
